Mexico qualify for the finals 2022 World Cup after winning in the last match of the CONCACAF qualifying zone. United States of America also qualified for Qatar despite losing to Costa Rica.
Mexico won 2-0 over El Salvador in the match at the Estadio Azteca, Thursday (31/3/2022) morning WIB. Mexico’s goals were created by Uriel Antuna and Raul Jimenez.
Thanks to this victory, Mexico finished second in the CONCACAF zone standings with 28 points from 14 matches. They lost on goal difference to Canada who had already qualified with the same number of points.
Mexico means always qualify for the last eight editions of the World Cup in a row. At the 2018 World Cup, they stopped in the round of 16.
Of the other matches, the United States lost 0-2 to Costa Rica in the match at the Estadio Nacional, Thursday (31/3/2022) morning WIB. However, the result still passed the US to Qatar.
Christian Pulisic et al. finished third in the standings 2022 World Cup Qualification CONCACAF zone with 25 points. They are ahead on goal difference over Costa Rica who have the same number of points.
This result marks the return of the US to the World Cup. They did not qualify for the World Cup four years ago in Russia.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica who finished in fourth place will undergo a play-off against a team from another confederation. Costa Rica will face New Zealand who are the winners of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers Oceania zone.
