Mexico and the US withdraw their candidacy for the 2027 Women’s World Cup

Mexico City. The Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) and US Soccer withdrew their joint bid to organize the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with the aim of focusing on the 2031 edition.

In a statement released on their official platforms, the presidents of both organizations explained that the delay in their application will allow them to “take advantage of the lessons learned from the 2026 Cup”, with greater support for the host cities and the improvement of agreements with the media. Communication.

“Organizing a World Cup is an enormous task and having additional time to prepare allows us to maximize its impact around the world,” said the president of the US federation, Cindy Parlow Cone, who also committed to “offering equitable experiences to the players, the fans and all interested parties.”

While in Mexico inequalities persist in several clubs of the Liga Mx Femenil, the head of the FMF, Ivar Sisniega, maintained that this decision will contribute not only to better organization, but also to the “continuous growth of women’s soccer, in addition to offering the best infrastructure.”

Given the withdrawal of both federations, the only remaining candidacies are that of Brazil, in addition to the triple alliance of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
