Armed with rifles and grenades, the attackers carried out an attack on the head of police in Mexico City on Friday, the authorities of the Mexican capital said. An injured officer was taken to hospital. At least three people were killed.

An attack on the head of police in Mexico City Omar Garcia Harfuch took place on Friday around 6.30 local time (13.30 in Poland) in the rich district of Lomas de Chapultepec. There are, among others, residences of many foreign diplomats. The attackers, previously hidden in a truck, attacked the armored off-road vehicle that Garcia was moving with security. The shooting took place, and according to police, the attackers were armed with automatic weapons and grenades.
Mayor of the city Claudia Sheinbaum said that the chief of police went to the hospital with three gunshot wounds. As reported, among the victims of the attack are his two bodyguards and a woman who was on her way to work. However, it is not certain how many people died exactly.

Sheinbaum described the attack as “insolent,” but did not want to speculate who was responsible for it. She assured that the city would continue to work on improving security, even if it led to such events.
