The Mexican community in Sunset Park celebrates the 211th anniversary of their country’s independence.
At six in the afternoon this Wednesday, the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York began the outdoor event with music and dance.
Among the presentations were the Mariachi Alvaro Paulino, Grupo Misterio and the Yaocihuatl dance group.

The event was also attended by Miss Universe 2020, Andrea Meza.
“And how nice to see this amount of Mexicans abroad. Since I arrived, I have not felt far from my country because there are Mexicans everywhere,” said Meza.
“Loving people, hardworking people and here we see it represented. And I feel very happy to be able to celebrate this day with all these people,” added the beauty queen.
The entrance was free and the main attraction of this day was the realization of the typical cry of independence that ended with the singing of the national anthem.
Another of those attending the celebration was the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York, Eric Adams, who posted a message on social networks about his attendance.
“It was a pleasure to join friends and @Jorge_IslasLo to celebrate Mexican Independence Day in Sunset Park today,” Adams wrote in reference to the Mexican consul in NY, Jorge Islas.

Later, Consul Islas was in Times Square always as part of the Independence celebrations.
Spontaneously, the Mexican community from different regions of the city gathered in Times Square, in the heart of Manhattan to celebrate our independence. One of the main attractions and symbols of the Big Apple, the Empire State Building, also joined the celebration of the Independence of Mexico by lighting up with the colors of the Mexican flag.
