>> EMIDSS-5 joins the strengthening of the cooperation agenda with Mexico: “A big boost for our country’s talent,” they clarify
The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) announced through the Mexican Space Agency (AEM), that they are experimenting with new space technology in Mexico and components, which will be tested in the middle of the August on a NASA (National and Space Administration) mission. Administration).
The general director of the AEM, Salvador Landeros Ayala, explained that the tests with this proud technology from Mexico, will be carried out on board the space model EMIDSS-5 (“Experimental Model for Iterative Design for Satellite Subsystems-5”) with an invitation from NASA to the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the project coordinator.
This action adds to the educational and collaboration agenda with the AEM and NASA, with the support of the Federal Government, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the IPN, and the Mexican Senate, he said.
EMIDSS program director and researcher at the Aerospace Development Center (CDA) of the IPN, Mario Alberto Mendoza Bárcenas, pointed out that this mission, where there were experts from the Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology of the UNAM, and the Institute of Technology. and studies are also collaborating, Superiors of the West, representing “a great building for the talent of our country.”
He explained that EMIDSS-5 is a technological model for stratospheric experiments and experiments for the design and development of an instrument, which after the experiment will be transferred to Mexico’s orbital space developments in the conceptual design phase, especially orbit satellites low, such as the “TEPEU-1” and “ITESAT-1”.
It has installed IPN experiments, such as “STERN-CECyT-19”, to test composite materials in the stratosphere that will contribute to the design and construction of future Mexican aircraft, and another (“UPIITA- IPN”) to evaluate performance and control. . of a series of satellite cameras coordinated by a microcontroller.
As well as various other equipment and components, including two “NanoSat” type modules with electronic instrumentation, on-board computers, environmental sensors, GPS, voltage regulation devices, and mechanical coupling devices according to the TEPEU-1 and space projects. 1.
NASA will launch “EMIDSS-5” from Fort Sumner, New Mexico, USA, as it will with the follow-up, “EMIDSS-6”, this December, from McMurdo Base, Antarctica, including with the support of AEM the proof-of-concept instrument “AEM-OPTIC-1”, which receives data and satellite images of the stratospheric environment, to contribute to the study of climate change.
The AEM agreed that coordinated actions like this one contribute to the strategic vision of transforming Mexico into a space power through special education, as the new generations will be in charge of infrastructure development Mexico’s future satellite, they concluded.
