Mexican rowers advance to the final stretch of the World Championships in the discipline in Canada | National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport | Government

After a pause in activities due to weather conditions, Mexican rowers returned to action at the World Championship of the discipline in St. Catharines, Canada, where on Tuesday they advanced to the final stretch of the competition, which takes place from August 18 to 25 on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Paris 2024 Olympian Alexis López qualified for the A/B semi-final, scheduled for August 23, after coming through the repechage round in first place with a time of 07:57.44 minutes in the men’s lightweight single sculls event, ahead of his opponents from Germany, Tunisia and Japan.

Kenia Lechuga Alanís, also an Olympian in the French capital, will compete in the repechage on August 21 in the same event, finishing second in Heat 3 of the qualifiers with a time of 08:28.74 minutes.

Olympian Miguel Carballo, along with Marco Antonio Velázquez, Rafael Mejía and José Navarro, will compete in the Lightweight Quadruple Scull Final A alongside Germany, the United States and Denmark, finishing in second place in the preliminary lane allocation race with a time of 06:36.96 minutes.

In the Under-23 category, André Simsch, multiple medalist at the 2024 CONADE Nationals in Mexico City, secured his place in the Single Sculls Semifinal C/D by completing the repechage round in fourth place with 08:10.27 minutes, surpassed by France, New Zealand and Lithuania.

For their part, Daniela Altamirano and Valeria Villanueva made it to the Final B of the lightweight women’s double sculls in the first lane, after passing the repechage in fourth place with a time of 08:09.69, while Emilio García and José Navarro will be in action on August 22 for the final round of the lightweight single-sculls.

The activity of the Mexican teams in both categories will continue this Wednesday, August 21; while Nicolás Luna and Roberto Ahumada in the Under-19 will have their first appearance in the men’s double scull event.
