Frankfurt. The book, from its modesty, continues to be for many one of the most generous pleasures and digitalization has transformed reading habits.
The most important publishing event in the world, the Frankfurt Book Fair opens its doors from October 16 to 20. In the 76th edition of the book meeting, Italy is the guest country of honor, which is intended to promote an important aspect of Italian cultural life that goes beyond the borders of language.
Around four thousand exhibitors from almost a hundred countries carry out businesses where the protagonist is not only the book, but everything that is generated around it.
The publishing industry does not have it easy. That traditional model that went from the author to the publisher, from the publisher to the bookstore and from there to the reading public has been transformed by the impact of digitalization.
Having a good literary agent is no longer a guarantee. The author can choose to take the liberty of publishing his own work in digital format without fear of giving up part of his earnings.
Digital reading is advancing in such a way that it has even been considered that in a country like the United States, more than 50 percent of the publishing industry is already digital.
