Mexican prosecutor says Chapo’s son has gone missing

(ANSA) – MEXICO CITY, AUGUST 29 – The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico has announced that, following the capture of Ismael El Mayo Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa cartel, it is unaware of the location and legal status of Ovidio Guzmán López, son of Chapo Guzmán, nicknamed El Raton, who was arrested in his homeland on January 5, 2023 and later extradited to the United States. “We are not aware, at this time, of his current status or whereabouts in North American territory,” reads a statement from the Attorney General’s Office issued this afternoon. The Mexican Attorney General also said it had obtained data on the chronological sequence of El Mayo Zambada’s arrest in the United States, which begins with “the release of Ovidio Guzmán from a maximum security prison in the U.S. prison system two days before the alleged kidnapping of Ismael “N” (aka El Mayo Zambada), which occurred on July 25.” After Mayo Zambada was captured at the Santa Teresa airport in New Mexico, it was learned from Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) records that El Ratón had been “released” two days earlier.
