Mexican officers break woman’s neck during arrest | Abroad

The images show the woman lying on her stomach in the street next to a police car, with her hands tied behind her back. A policewoman presses her knee onto the detainee’s back, who is screaming in pain. Later, officers can be seen laying her motionless body on the back of a pick-up truck.

An autopsy shows that the woman has broken two cervical vertebrae. The agents involved have been arrested and the Tulum police chief fired. President Nayib Bukele Ortez of El Salvador has called for severe penalties for those responsible.

The case also caused a stir because of its similarities to George Floyd’s death in May last year during his arrest in the United States. Images showed white cop Derek Chauvin putting his knee on black Floyd’s neck for minutes on end. The criminal case against Chauvin began on Monday in Minneapolis.
