Mexican monsoon affects the northwest of the country – N+

The Mexican monsoon will remain over the northwest of the Mexican Republic generating heavy to very heavy rains with possible hailstorms in Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa.

Tropical wave number 17 will move over the west of the national territory causing heavy to very heavy rains and possible hail fall in that region.

Low pressure channels over the west, center, southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula, divergence in height and moisture ingress from both oceans, will cause afternoon showers and heavy rains at very strong points in the mentioned regions with possible hail fall on entities of the northeast and center of the Mexican Republic.

The very hot environment will continue over entities in the northwest, north and northeast of the national territory, and may exceed 40 °C in Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.

The above weather systems will cause the following effects:

  • Heavy rains with very strong punctuals (50 to 75 mm): Sonora, Sinaloa, Durango, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacan, Veracruz and Oaxaca.
  • Intervals of showers with heavy punctual rains (25 to 50 mm): Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Colima, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
  • Shower intervals (5 to 25 mm): Baja California Sur, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Mexico City, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Campeche.
  • Isolated showers (0.1 to 5 mm): Baja California, Coahuila and Nuevo Leon.
  • Wind with gusts of 60 to 70 km/h: Coahuila and Nuevo Leon.
  • Wind with gusts of 50 to 60 km/h: Chihuahua, Durango, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí and Yucatan coasts.
  • Maximum temperatures from 40 to 45 °C: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.
  • Maximum temperatures from 35 to 40 °C: Baja Southern California, Durango, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Chiapas, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz (north), Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
  • Maximum temperatures from 30 to 35 °C: Zacatecas, Jalisco (coast), Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Queretaro (north), Hidalgo (north), Puebla (southwest) and Morelos (south).
  • Minimum temperatures for Sunday morning from 0 to 5 °C: mountainous areas of Hidalgo, State of Mexico, Tlaxcala and Puebla.
