Investigations of the Department of Toxicology of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) of National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) discovered a mexi plantcana which acts against cancer: it is the medicinal plant cuachalalate.

The doctorLibya Vega Loyo Who is lead this project that investigates the cuachalalate, growing plant in all aspects of Pacific Ocean from Nayarit to Oaxaca. According to research cancer cells are inhibited with a compound of this medicinal plant.
Traditionally this plant is used in Mexican medicine as a gastroprotective agent and also helps against vascular diseases to speed recovery.
In agreement with the specialized magazine Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology and Molecules, the compounds of cuachalalate have shown positive results against tumor cells. What’s more, stimulate the system in order to better deal with different types of cancer that occur in the body.
The investigation also revealed that the benefits of the cuachalalate are due to its content 6-pentadecyl salicylic anacardic acid, which promotes the destruction of tumor cells without influencing ordinary cells of the body.
How does the study was realized?
The study was carried out on models with breast cancer, in leukemia cells and also those from gastrointestinal tract, especially in the stomach.
Unlike drugs like taxol, which is used in the treatment of breast cancer, but is very toxic to the immune system, el cuachalalate does not damage immune cells, so it is a compound safer.
When could it be used?
The investigation sobre la cuachalalate against cancer is currently doing preclinical tests with this compound, comparing it with other classical drugs used as a remedy for cancer, with good results .Therefore, we will have to wait for it to happen the filter of preclinical tests.
