Mexico City. Mexican defender César Montes has signed with Lokomotiv Moscow with the intention of getting more playing time after not being considered a starter in the recent season with Almería, from the second division of Spain.
“A new beginning with the utmost enthusiasm. I’m really looking forward to being on the pitch and defending this badge. I’m very grateful to Lokomotiv for the trust they’ve placed in me,” the player posted to confirm the transfer of the team.
In order to finalize the signing with the Russian club, Montes even asked coach Javier Aguirre for permission to leave the training camp with the Mexican national team after Saturday’s match against New Zealand.
Montes, who found professional success with Monterrey, arrived in Europe after the 2022 World Cup when he signed a deal with Espanyol, which was relegated, before later deciding to sign with Almería, which also lost its place in Spain’s top division.
César Montes will be the second Mexican currently playing in the Russian league after Luis Chávez arrived in the summer of 2023 when he signed with Dynamo Moscow. Lokomotiv is currently in second place in the overall table of the Russian league.
