The officials were accompanied by Douglas Challborn, Political Counselor, and Glenn MacDougall, Counselor and Consul of the Canadian Embassy in Mexico.
During the meeting, security issues, air connectivity between Canada and Cancun and the importance of the Canadian market in the Mexican Caribbean were addressed.
Importance of Canada as an issuing market for the Mexican Caribbean
According to data from the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo (Sedetur), In 2021, the Mexican Caribbean received more than 300,000 tourists from Canada, with an approximate stay of eight days and an average expenditure of US$1,325 per personwith a rate of return of 45.6%.

The governor of Quintana Roo stressed that as a result of the events that occurred in a vacation complex in the Mexican Caribbean, security actions are strengthened for the benefit of tourism.
It is worth mentioning that the Mexican Caribbean has been the scene of violent events in tourist areas in recent months and that the State Attorney General’s Office has assured that the corresponding measures have already been taken.
