Mexican captures two inmates who escaped from prison in Arizona; nobody thanked him

“I got strength for my family; it gave me a lot of courage that they beat my wife”

Not all the heroes wear a coat.

The Coolidge Police in Arizona managed to capture two fugitives who escaped from a state prison in Florence thanks to the help of a mexican immigrant who fought against them to defend his family and managed to subdue them until they were handed over to the authorities. However, so far he has not received recognition from the authorities for his heroic action.

Luis Álvarez said that “he does not know where” he drew so much strength to fight hand to hand against the two inmates considered highly dangerous, who raided his home and beat his wife Rosalina López last Thursday.

“I knew they were the fugitives, I had already seen them on television and they were wearing an orange uniform. For twenty minutes I was fighting with them. I drew strength for my family; It gave me a lot of courage that they beat my wife, ”said Álvarez, 58, who was a key player in the capture of the fugitives.

But the immigrant, a native of the Mexican state of Sinaloa and who 20 years ago he emigrated to the United StatesNot only did he decide to fight the fugitives who escaped from the state prison on January 23, but when they fled he went after them until they subdued them while the police were alerted by his family.

Police did not mention it

“They wanted to escape, but I stopped them. The good thing is that I beat them. They got tired; maybe they came tired from so much walking”Said Álvarez, who feels disappointed that he was not mentioned by the police during a press conference about the event.

“When the police arrived I released them; is when they are seen running briefly in the video. But I didn’t like that they never mentioned me in the capture. It was discrimination”Said the agricultural worker, father of three children.

David T. Harmon and John B. Charpiot were captured in Coolidge, Arizona, last Thursday morning. Several agencies were involved in the arrest, including Coolidge Police, the United States Marshals and the Pinal County Sheriffs.

Chapriot, who was meeting 35 years for sexual abuse of minors, and Harmon, sentenced to 100 years for kidnapping and robbery, were recorded by the police body cameras as they ran through a field about 17 kilometers from the jail.

Álvarez recalled that before the fight and the capture of the fugitives he had left his home to work in the cotton and alfalfa fields, when he heard his wife’s screams.

“They entered through the dog’s door. My wife thought it was me when she heard noises; she was lying in the room. It was when I heard their screams. They were desperate asking for money and car keys”, He recounted.

Once he confronted them and the police arrived, he could feel calmer and that is when “the fear really came over me because of everything I had lived through.”

The police offered a reward of $ 35,000 dollars for each prisoner, which is now claimed by several people and about which Álvarez only limits himself to saying: “Well, according to what they are saying, a man spoke first, but I didn’t see anyone.”
