Last week, the Mexican association and several Mexican clubs visited the Netherlands. During the visit, valuable knowledge was exchanged and a practice match was played between the Dutch Juniors and Young Mexico.

The Mexicans came to the Netherlands to share knowledge with each other at top level. For the KNVB, Lennard van Ruiven (Director of Football Development) and Tijn Kruize (Head of National Team Organization) were closely involved. The visit was considered successful from both sides.

The themes that were central to the visit were the organization of Dutch football, the technical development of youth teams and talent recognition from amateur football and the associated growth to the Orange representative teams.

Practice match

On Thursday evening it took place in the Asito Stadium in Almelo a practice match was played between the Dutch Juniors and their peers from Mexico. Michael Reiziger’s team eventually won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal by debutant Maxim Dekker.

The visit of the FMF (Federación Mexicana de Fútbol) fits within the international strategy of the KNVB. As one of the original founders of FIFA, the association feels responsible to continue to innovate and develop football. This also means that the KNVB shares its vision and knowledge with other football associations. The visit is also experienced as valuable, because the KNVB also learns from its international colleagues.
