In a move that has sparked both intrigue and debate, Minister of Communications and Digital, Meutya Hafid, appointed Rudi Sutanto as Special Staff to the Minister for Strategic Communications on Monday, January 13, 2025.The appointment, though, has raised questions about Sutanto’s alleged connection to Rudi Valinka, a prominent buzzer during President Joko Widodo’s administration.
speaking at the presidential Palace in Jakarta, Meutya Hafid addressed the speculation head-on.“I don’t know, okay? The Rudi Sutanto I know is rudi Sutanto. So I don’t want to speculate about who Rudi Sutanto is,” she stated firmly. Two former spokespersons for President Jokowi confirmed to Tempo that Rudi Sutanto was indeed one of Jokowi’s buzzers. However, attempts by Tempo to reach Sutanto for confirmation have so far gone unanswered.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Anantakupa Field in Central Jakarta, saw Meutya Hafid swear in a number of high-ranking officials to assist her at the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi). “I beleive that brothers and sisters will carry out their duties as well as possible in accordance with the responsibilities given,” she said during the event.
In its latest formation, Komdigi now boasts three special staff members. Among them is the renowned artist Raline Rahmat Shah, who has been appointed as Special Staff for Global Digital Partnerships. Aida Azhar joins as Special Staff for Inter-Institutional Relations, while Rudi Sutanto takes on the role of Special staff to the Minister for Global Partnerships and Digital Education.
The appointment of Sutanto has drawn attention not only for his alleged ties to Valinka but also for the broader implications it may have on Indonesia’s digital communication strategies. As the government continues to navigate the complexities of digital conversion, the role of special staff like Sutanto will be crucial in shaping the nation’s digital future.
