The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Mezzola, has announced her closeness as the head of her office, said “Politico”, said BTA.
Mathieu Tabon, who started working in the European Parliament for Mezzola in 2013, takes over from Leticia Suleta of Reales Ansaldo. She takes up a new role as Director of the Department of Relations with National Parliaments in the European Parliament.
In his Facebook post, MEP Alex Ajus Saliba from the Labor Party in Malta described Metzola’s move as “unbridled nepotism”. Mezzola is from the rival Nationalist Party of Malta. Tabon has been a supporter of Mezzola for years. After he started working for her, he married her sister in 2015, before she became President of the European Parliament.
When Mezzola heads the EP at the end of 2022, she recommends Tabon for the position of head of her office. In the end, however, he refrained from appointing him, as the moment coincided with the “Catargate” bribery scandal that affected the European Parliament, Politico reports noting.
