Your association has suffered from the health crisis, what results does it show today?
“The situation is better. To give you an idea in a few figures, in 2019 we received €2.3 million in revenue, €950,000 in 2020 and €1.7 million in 2021. The situation in 2020 was explained by the cancellation of events. Namely that the demonstration of bikers, A rose, a hope, alone brings in €930,000. For the year 2021, we received €340,000 in legacies, €400,000 in proceeds from events and some €19,000 from donations and local grants. »
How do you explain the erosion of the number of members?
“Today we have 9,300 members compared to 12,000 six or seven years ago. This erosion can be explained by a drop in purchasing power and the anxiety-provoking health crisis. In this context, it is difficult to support associations. »
In Moselle, you value research. Explain to us…
“It is always the board of directors that decides. In 2019, we donated €1 million for research. Despite a drastic drop in our finances in 2019, we still allocated €135,000 to research. In 2021, €470,000 will be devoted to research. This is a fundamental axis for us. »
The league is still social missions and in particular helping the sick. How does it unfold?
“The league helps people in precariousness. In normal times, there are nearly 350 people and nearly €150,000 in financial aid granted after examination of the file by our social committee, made up of an oncologist, a patient manager, a social worker and two league administrators. All files are examined and the aid is capped at €1,000. We are actually financing a problem, namely a cleaning problem, a heating bill, hair needs…”
You deploy supportive care, what are they?
“We know that supportive care can prevent recurrence, even reduce the disease. This is why we take care of the psychotherapy sessions set up with the Pierre-Janet center for patients or their loved ones. The attending physician makes a request to the league and we send the six funded vouchers. We have also set up adapted physical activities. We have suitable premises in Marly and throughout the department, we have agreements with service providers so that patients can practice fencing, swimming, tennis, Nordic walking, Pilates… We also do dietetics, art therapy. Some treatments such as sophrology or socio-aesthetics are practiced in hospitals. »
The league finances equipment in hospitals?
“We can finance diagnostic and treatment equipment provided that it is innovative. Thus we have supported the CHR Metz-Thionville with nearly €700,000 over the past seven years. In the Uneos group, we are concerned with supportive care for palliatives up to €100,000. We are going to allocate €80,000 for a mammograph at the Forbach hospital. »
