Few remember it and yet… The Apollo 10 capsule, a manned space flight which took place in May 1969, was exhibited in Metz from March 31 to April 8, 1973, in the main courtyard of the Fair-Exposition. The presentation of this American spacecraft was a European first. Throughout the year 1973, “Charlie Brown”, nickname given to the command module of the Apollo 10 mission, toured twenty-nine cities in France (the last stop being Rennes), before being exhibited. in other European countries. In 1976, he definitively integrated the London Science Museum.

Objective moon
Developed by NASA between 1961 – 1975, the Apollo 10 space program aimed to land men on the moon before the end of the 1960s. The mission, carried out from May 18 to 26, 1969, was to constitute a final rehearsal before the moon landing. This feat will be accomplished on July 20 of the same year. The Apollo 10 command module and the lunar module were respectively baptized “Charlie Brown” and “Snoopy”, in homage to the famous comic heroes created by Charles M. Schulz.
Apollo 10 was launched on May 18, 1969, by a rocket Saturn V (SA-505), since Kennedy Space Center, Florida. After 31 orbits around the Moon, during which several crucial tests were carried out, the mission ended when the capsule landed in the Pacific Ocean on May 26, 1969. Its success paved the way for the success of Apollo 11, 2 months later.
