Metz. Algerians vote until tonight for major changes in their country

The polling stations have opened since Saturday, October 31 in nine offices depending on the Algerian consulate in Metz. As in Nancy, Fameck, Reims, Saint-Dizier or Chapelle-Saint-Luc, Freyming-Merlebach and Charleville-Mézières, Algerians go to the polls until this evening 7 p.m.

Their vote will allow their country to make major changes in the functioning of institutions. This referendum is the direct result of Hirak, in other words all these demonstrations during which, from February 2019, the people firmly protested against the systematic forcing of former President Bouteflika, a recurring candidate for his own re-election.

Nakhla Kechacha, consul, Djamel Taibi his vice-consul and Abdelhacer Bensoula, representing the independent national elections authority, are all three present, this Sunday 1is November, on the two polling stations on rue Leclerc-de-Hautelocque, in Metz.

Despite the confinement and the health situation, the French authorities authorized the holding of this referendum. “A protocol has been presented and accepted, we are delighted with it. Everything is followed to the letter and the voters are very disciplined ”. Contaminated by Covid-19, the current Algerian president, Abdlemadjid Tebboune, was evacuated this week from the military hospital where he was being treated, to Germany.
