Mets vs. Braves and Yankees vs. Rays Weekend Series Preview: Matchups, Pitchers, and Injuries

BRONX, New York.─ The Mets will host the Braves, while the Yankees will travel to Tampa Bay, to begin their travels this weekend until this Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves have a record of 22-12, in second place, and the New York Mets, in third place in the National League East, have an 18-18 record.

The Mets haven’t played since Tuesday, when they overcame a three-run first-inning deficit to beat St. Louis. Louis 7-5.

The Mets’ hopes of sweeping the Cardinals were dashed by heavy rain in the St. Louis area, which forced Game 3 of the series to be postponed after a two-and-a-half-hour delay.

Play will begin on August 5th, which was originally the only day off for the Mets on the West Coast tour.

Due to a rain event, the New York Mets’ August schedule will begin with a four-city road trip in which they will play 10 games in three time zones.

The Braves’ trip to New York will be their first this season. They lost two of three to the Mets from April 8-11 – Atlanta’s first loss in a series against their archrivals since August 2022.

Atlanta was off Thursday after completing a two-game sweep of the host Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night, when Marcell Ozuna hit two home runs in a 5-0 victory.

The Mets begin their three-game hitting streak on Friday night when they host Atlanta in the opener of a three-game series between the NL East rivals.

Left-hander José Quintana (1-3, 5.20 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Mets against right-hander Charlie Morton (2-0, 3.50) beginning at 7:10 pm at Citi Field.

Quintana took the loss in his most recent start on May 3, when he allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings as the Mets fell 10-8 to the Tampa Bay Rays. He is 3-5 with a 6.55 ERA in nine career starts against the Braves.

Morton ignored the decision on May 3 after allowing two runs in six innings as the Braves lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-3 in 11 innings. He is 6-6 with a 3.71 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) against the Mets.
