Metropolitan Opera in crisis: At the moment, only prayer helps

The largest opera house in the USA is falling from one crisis to the next in the pandemic. Behind this are structural problems that are now coming to light with full force.

Music, it is said, can build bridges between continents – increasing digitalization is making this vision technically a reality. So next Sunday the Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu will sing in Bucharest, while five musicians from the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera in New York play live. However, the concert will not necessarily be a sign of reconciliation, rather one of protest, as Gheorghiu made clear in advance.
