The star photographer Richard Avedon would have turned 100 this year – the New York Metropolitan Museum wants to celebrate this occasion with the exhibition “Murals”.
The New York Metropolitan Museum celebrates the US photographer Richard Avedon, who would have been 100 years old on May 15.
Several group portraits would be on display to mark the occasion in the Murals exhibit, which is scheduled to open on Thursday, the Central Park Exhibition Hall in Manhattan said.
“Richard Avedon reinvented the group portrait,” said the Austrian director of the Metropolitan Museum, Max Hollein. “Growing up just blocks from the museum, it has been a constant source of inspiration for him. Now his extraordinary murals are treasures of the collection and we are thrilled to be able to show them together for the first time in more than 20 years.”
Born in New York in 1923 and died in San Antonio in 2004, Avedon was considered one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. He is best known for his portraits and fashion images.
