The former head of the DECR MP, Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest, in an interview with the American writer and editor-in-chief of The American Conservative Rod Dreher, said that the Vatican document, which allows the blessing of LGBT couples, makes it impossible to talk about a possible reunification of Catholics and Orthodox Christians. Interview published on YouTube channel Jesus Portal.

The Metropolitan stated that he was shocked by this decision, since “we have always focused on the RCC as a beacon of traditional Christianity.”

When asked by a journalist whether the Vatican document is the end of conversations between Catholics and Orthodox Christians about the possibility of reunifying the Church after the Great Schism of 1054, the hierarch answered in the affirmative.

“If we are realistic, we can no longer hope for a future unity of Orthodox and Catholics. Such steps, of course, do not bring us closer, but will create new lines of division,” the Metropolitan said.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Vatican allowed priests of the RCC to bless homosexual couples.
