Metropolitan Health Inspectorate Conducts Cigar Smoking Check on Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev During Online Meeting

The Metropolitan Regional Health Inspectorate (SRHI) is conducting a cigar smoking check on Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev during an online meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council on April 18. This is written “24 hours”, citing a letter from health authorities to bTV. The television broadcast report, in which, after the fifth minute, Geshev is seen lighting a cigar while attending the council meeting online. The Attorney General is seen possibly in his office at the Courthouse.

In its letter, RZI asks bTV to provide an excerpt from its report, broadcast on the central news feed that evening, in which Geshev is seen with the cigar.

By law, smoking is prohibited in closed public places – in the premises with separate workplaces where work is done, as well as in the premises with auxiliary and service purposes.

The law states that, as an exception, smoking is allowed in separate private rooms located in the airport buildings and equipped with a ventilation system.

A fine of BGN 300 to BGN 500 is provided for this violation of the Health Act, and BGN 500 to BGN 1,000 if the same violation is repeated.

The meeting of the council on May 18 was nerve-wracking for Geshev, as it discussed the inclusion in the agenda of the reports against him, as well as the first proposal of the six members of the Prosecutor’s College for his dismissal for serious misconduct.
