During today’s session, April 30, 2024, with 20 votes in favor, the Council withdrew the Sebastián de Benalcázar Great Collar award, which was delivered to Carlos Pólit, on November 23, 2012 during the administration of the then mayor. Augusto Barrera.
The resolution states in its article one: «Modify the Resolution of the Metropolitan Council of Quito No. C696 of November 23, 2012, and consequently eliminate the paragraph related to the granting of the Gran Collar Sebastián de Benalcázar decoration, in favor of the former comptroller general of the state, Mr. Carlos Pólit Faggioni for having been sentenced, at the national and international level, for the commission of acts of corruption; and, therefore, declare void the granting of said decoration corresponding to the year 2012.
