The city and the Metropolis of Lyon are launching, in cooperation with the European Union, the “Joli mois de L’Europe”. The objective of the action, which will take place May 9 to June 5 throughout the city, is to make residents aware of the challenges of a greener and more social Europe.
“A key moment to show what has been done”
Different events are planned, all over the Lyon area in order to make the population aware of ecological issues: awareness workshops on composting, selective sorting, pollution control, visits, electric bike races etc… « We want to raise awareness among Lyonnais through these events, but also to show that Europe is doing things. We are there to support local communities, associations, and even citizens. It is a key moment to show what has been done and to ask questions about EuropeSays Alain Dumort, regional representative of the European Commission. So these many workshops will have one ecological and social significance.
A financing plan of 1000 billion euros
The implementation of ecological measures does not simply involve the organization of events. The European Union has helped financing of several ecological actions « In Lyon, we have thermal renovation projects in colleges and public establishments. But the list goes on! We also have it in transport, especially with trams, but also cable transport», Declares Hélène Dromain, Vice-President Métropole de Lyon for European Cooperation.
In total, the European Union has unveiled a financing plan of 1000 billion euros to carry out numerous actions throughout Europe.
