Metro: New entry gates installed – No more sneaking –

The new electronic entrance gates were put into operation today at the six stations of Metro line 3, the extension to Piraeus.

These are 73 electronic entry/exit gates with improved operation and security features, as well as 6 data management and transmission centers, which were installed at the stations “Agia Varvara”, “Korydallos”, “Nikaia”, “Maniatika”, “Piraeus” and ” Municipal Theatre”. The biggest differences of the new entrance gates are the increased height of the gate, the vertical security sensors, but also horizontal sensors that prevent the passage of two people using one ticket.

“We are starting from the “Maniatika” station to put the gates into operation at the six stations of the extension to Piraeus. They are new technology gates, with increased quality characteristics. At the same time, we are installing 66 new systems for issuing tickets at the stations, so that the citizen can be better served. These machines have the possibility of audio and visual information, so that our fellow citizens with a weakness in sight or hearing can be served in the best way”, emphasizes Mr. Giorgos Spiliopoulos, managing director of OASA.

At the same time, Mr. Spiliopoulos adds, “modern ticketing machines are being installed on the tram lines, in the extension to Piraeus, a very successful activity that served and was embraced by the people of Piraeus”.

Specifically, the new upgraded equipment includes:

  • 73 electronic entry/exit gates with improved operation and security features, as well as 6 data management and transmission centers.
  • 46 automatic ATH.ENA Ticket and ATH.ENA Card issuing devices at Metro stations (one of them per station will have audio guidance in Greek and English).
  • 20 automatic ticket and card issuing machines at the Tram stops to Piraeus, with visual guidance in 6 languages.
