Metro Exodus, an Enhanced Edition PC to bring Nvidia and AMD GPUs to their knees

In November last year 4A Games, the developer of the series Metro, was exposed by ensuring the landing on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S during this year as a free update able to take full advantage of the new consoles. In these hours the developers have decided to take everyone on the counterattack by adding more meat to the fire: Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition!

Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition: A whole new version with DLSS 2.0

Metro Exodus was one of the first games to support the ray tracing on PC, but now the technology that allows better reproduction of reflections, shadows and light effects has landed in the world of consoles with Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5, and this has led 4A Games to “radically revise our 4A Engine and fulfill our ambitions for a fully ray-traced experience on next-gen consoles and high-end PCs. “

The developers have revamped the rendering engine from top to bottom, developing a “fully ray traced” lighting pipeline with tons of optimizations, updates and new features for ray traced global illumination and emissive lighting, adding to the whole a “temporal reconstruction” technology to “further increase resolution, visual detail and performance” in order to take the latest GPUs from Nvidia and AMD to the limit.

La PC Enhanced Edition “will require a GPU capable of handling ray tracing as a minimum specification“and it will be a separate version, not a simple patch to the game that we all know: it will however be offered as an extra to all PC players, so you don’t need to buy it. Also new in this version is support for the DLSS 2.0, very useful (on Nvidia GPUs) to preserve high performance while still with high image quality and active ray tracing.

The PC Enhanced Edition will be downloadable by those who bought Metro Exodus on the Epic Games Store, Steam and GoG “during the spring“.

Metro Exodus also on Mac and Linux

The 4A Games game is also preparing to arrive on systems with macOS and Linux, more precisely the version Mac will land on the Mac App Store, Steam and Epic Games Store a March, while that Linux a little later on Steam.

Metro Exodus su PS5 e Xbox Series X: 4K a 60 FPS

Last, but not least, Metro Exodus “will run at 4K @ 60 Fps with fully ray traced lighting on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X“. 4A Games has worked to make the most of the SSDs of the new consoles, thus reducing loading times, has worked on textures in 4K and on some specific features of the new consoles: spatial audio and reduced latency for the controller on Xbox, and support for DualSense haptic features on PS5. As for the Xbox Series S, the developers are aiming for 1080p with all the features already mentioned, but the frame rate is “yet to be determined”.

Finally, work is underway to further refine the title, including the ability to change the FOV (field of view), a first for the Metro series. As for the availability of these versions, we talk about “later in the year“as a free update (Smart Delivery on Xbox) for all game owners.
