– We encourage people to go home from the mountains on Sunday or Monday morning at the latest, due to a lot of snow and poor driving conditions, says on-duty meteorologist Martin Granerød to Nettavisen.
Until Monday afternoon, it will be plus degrees in large parts of southern Norway. In other words, the Easter tourists should seize the chance to soak up the sun while they can.
– On Monday afternoon it will blow up to real snow in the mountains. It can be challenging. We would not recommend setting out on a long trip that day, continues Granerød.
In the lower-lying areas, the precipitation will fall as rain.
Grønerud emphasizes that people must decide for themselves whether they want to go on a drive, but that motorists should be careful in poor visibility and drive slowly on the roads.
Many Norwegians spend Easter in the mountains this weekend. The journey home takes most people on Monday, Easter Monday, but that may not be the best idea for everyone, warns the meteorologist:
– A transition to worse weather is expected in southern Norway on Monday. In the mountains, a danger warning has been sent out about snow drifts due to increasing wind and snowy weather, writes the Meteorological Institute on Twitter.
– Plan the trip, drive according to the conditions and use winter tyres, they add.
On Yr.no warns the meteorologists about the consequences:
- Reduced visibility.
- Locally difficult driving conditions due to snow packing in the roadway.
- Convoy driving may be introduced and/or roads may be closed at short notice.
