Meteorologist José Serra foresees rains and storms for this Wednesday; Thursday improves

The meteorologist José Serra issued his weather report for the next few hours in the national territory. In contact with Montevideo PortalSerra pointed out that starting Tuesday night a cold front will enter the southwest that will cause rains and storms of varying intensity.

Mainly there will be rains on Wednesday, some will be punctually strong in storm areas. Strong gusts of wind, electrical demonstrations and the possibility of hail will also be recorded.

“High volumes of rainfall are not expected throughout the national territory, but it is expected in storm zones,” said Serra, noting that it is expected to be mainly in the northeast and center of the country.

For Thursday, December 31, the situation improves, but the temperature begins to drop. A maximum of between 23 and 24ºC and a minimum between 12 and 14ºC are expected.

For Friday, January 1st, cloudy skies are expected, with a temperature between 26ºC maximum and 14ºC minimum.

2021 starts with drought

The meteorologist regretted that 2021 will begin with “an agrometeorological drought in much of the country.”

“We have been dragging a water deficit since November 2019,” said Serra, noting that currently the central, southeast and part of the south are the most affected by the lack of rain.

This situation will continue as long as the La Niña phenomenon and the summer continue, the meteorologist said, adding that a “very complicated” month of January is expected in terms of significant rains.
