Meteorological Institute warns of “risk of death” in Brazil due to the heat – Actualidade

Inmet, an organ linked to the Brazilian Government, issued a “great danger” alert, which will continue until Friday, due to the risk of death from hyperthermia, that is, an increase in body temperature that occurs when the organism produces or absorbs more heat from what can dissipate.

The alert is directed to a large part of the central-west region, more specifically to the federal units of the Federal District, Goiás and Mato Grosso, and to the state of Tocantins, in northern Brazil.

According to the Brazilian agency, temperatures will register five degrees celsius above the average in the region under alert, for more than five consecutive days, and people should take extra care with their health during this period.

The institute also warned of the low humidity levels in these regions, raising the alert to the level of “danger”.

Until Wednesday, the relative humidity of the air will vary between 20% and 12%, with “risk of forest fires and health”.

Since last week, a large part of Brazil has recorded temperature records, as a consequence of the permanence of a dry and hot air mass in the southeast and central-west regions of the country, which reduced the relative humidity of the air to levels below the considered ideal by the World Health Organization (40%).

The meteorological situation has further aggravated the forest fires that have been recurring in these regions.
