The meteorite probably fell last night in the area of the city of Moa, in the Cuban province of Holguin in the eastern part of the island, the website “Kubadebate” reported.
The electronic edition states that at 22:06 local time a glow of red and white light was noticed in the sky, followed by two explosions.
According to the head of the National Seismological Service, Enrique Arango Arias, everything suggests that it was a meteorite.
“Judging by the sensor readings, this was not an explosion on the ground, but because it was an event with such characteristics, our equipment recorded a clear shock wave,” he explained.
No injuries or damage were reported.
