JAKARTA – A fairly rare celestial phenomenon will occur in the territory of Indonesia. This meteor shower sky phenomenon can even be seen with the naked eye.
When Earth passes through a cloud of cosmic debris in mid-August, the night sky will appear to be lit up like fireworks thanks to the Perseid meteor shower.
Quoted from BBC Indonesia, this year, Perseid will reach its peak between 12 to 13 August.
However, the view this year will not be as spectacular as last year’s because there is a full moon.
“Unfortunately this year’s Perseid peak will be the worst for stargazers,” said Bill Cooke, NASA astronomer who heads the Meteoroid Environment Office.
In Indonesia, the meteor shower can be seen at 11.00 pm in Sabang and at 01.00 am on Rote Island, according to LAPAN’s official statement.
Andi said the meteor shower phenomenon would be visible to the naked eye if there was no light pollution.
