Meteocat puts all of Catalonia on alert for violent storms

The last days of October bring to Catalonia a scene of intense rains that will mark a drastic change in the weather. After weeks of a warmer than usual autumn, temperatures will begin to drop while rains and storms intensify, especially on the Catalan coast and pre-coast.

The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya, since Friday, October 25, activated the meteorological alert, predicting that there could be discharges of more than 40 mm in just 30 minutes and reaching a maximum danger level of 4 out of 6. The storms, in addition to intense, can bring winds and extreme phenomena, especially on the coast and pre-coastal

This Saturday is shaping up to be the most complicated day of the weekend. According to Meteocat, the water will fall strongly in practically the entire territory. From the south to the north, the rain will advance during the morning and will reach its peak at noon in coastal areas, where torrential rainfall is not ruled out.

According to forecasts, in Barcelona, for example, the rains will be especially intense, with thunder and lightning that will last until the end of the day. The models suggest that water accumulations could exceed 100 mm in points on the coast, pre-coastal and also on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees, an amount that places Catalonia at serious risk of flooding and other dangerous phenomena.

Temperatures, which until now had refused to drop, will finally fall between moderately and sharply, especially in the interior and in high altitude areas, where minimum temperatures are expected at the end of the day.

On Sunday, the Catalan scene will not change much; The rains will continue to be present although with less intensity, concentrating especially in the northern and eastern half of Catalonia. This truce, however, does not imply a complete improvement, since the forecast continues to show instability and risk of storms in some points.
