Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, said on Wednesday that the company’s Threads application will see the addition of new features such as the ability to share posts via Instagram messages, amid efforts to retain users of the new application.
Threads, which competes with X platform formerly known as Twitter, lost more than half of its users in the weeks following its tumultuous launch. The app surpassed 100 million subscribers within five days of its launch in early July.
Head of product Chris Cox said in a July meeting heard by Reuters that Meta is considering adding more re-engagement methods such as “making sure important threads show up while scrolling through the Instagram page”.
Zuckerberg said in a post today that the new updates will also include a button that makes it easier to refer to someone’s account in Threads.
The company is also looking forward to adding search capability and making an online version of Threads available in the coming weeks.
