Metal That Can Prevent Corrosion on Car Bumpers, Use Chrome Coating

JAKARTA, celebrities.id – Metal that can prevent corrosion on the car bumper must know the driver of the car. Besides being able to protect against metal corrosion, it can also provide good aesthetic value.

Yes, the metal coating in question is chromium. But please note that the chromium used is only a thin layer. So not in its entirety bumper mobil made of chromium.

As reported by Bumperbuddies, Saturday (11/6/2022), on classic cars, the bumper is made of whole chromium so that it is rust-free and makes the car look more attractive.

But even so, there are still drawbacks obtained from using this whole chromium, namely, it is very heavy and difficult to repair if it gets dented.

Over time, chromium is now utilized through a plating process or called chrome plating. Chromium itself is actually not only used by cars, but also others.

Well, for the chrome plating process, this is a method of applying a thin layer of chromium to the substrate (metal or alloy) through a procedure called electroplating.

In simple terms, electroplating is done by flowing an electric current between two electrodes immersed in an electrolyte bath consisting of chromic acid.

One of the electrodes will be the substrate to be coated. During the flow of electricity between the two electrodes, the chromium atoms are deposited in a coating on the electrode to be plated.

For your information, actually corrosion prevention measures can not only be done through chromium plating, but there are other steps that are simpler and cheaper.

The first is to diligently wash the car. Next is to avoid scuffs, let alone blisters that lift the coating and car paint. And always keep the metal components in the car dry.
