Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 has received update 1.4.0, available today on PC and January 2024 on consoles, which focuses on some fixes and improvements, including new display options.
The patch notes detail the changes made by this update, which change several graphics-related options. Currently the features are specific to the PC version, but they should also be consistent with the console versions once they get it in early January, the exact date has yet to be announced.
In particular, various screen, image and effect settings are presented. Among the options, the ability to activate or deactivate “smoothing” has been introduced, which allows you to have a clearer or less clear image.
Screen settings let you choose between Standard, Pixel Perfect, or 16:9, which changes the aspect ratio of the screen. The Steam version also gets a Full Screen option, which was previously missing, in addition to the three aforementioned options.
Using Standard or Pixel Perfect settings, you can apply wallpaper, display area, and screen filter options. The Standard setting displays an intermediate image between the original and enlarged versions of the image, while Pixel Perfect maintains the original aspect ratio.
When applying the 16:9 aspect ratio, the image expands, but is clearly stretched, but fills the entire screen. Finally, Screen Filter applies a sort of scanline to the image to simulate the effect of a CRT screen.
In addition to all this, audio options and a function to control the sensitivity and response of the controller have been added. All information about the patch, as well as some explanatory images of the effects of the new options, can be found at official website games.
