Metacritic Game Publisher Rankings compared 43 game publishers and all their respective reviews and games that appeared on Metacritic in 2022. At the top of the charts is Xbox Game Studios, with five different products reviewed with an average Metacritic score of 87. ,4. This makes Xbox Game Studios the first publisher in Metacritic history to end the year with an average score above 85.
100% of the games released by Microsoft were considered “good” by Metacritic standards (games with Metacritic scores of at least 75), and three of these titles were considered “excellent” (games with Metacritic scores of at least 75). minus 90), including Forza. Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox. Halo Infinite was also highly rated, but missed out on the “big” moniker with a Metacritic score of 87.
Microsoft beat out Sony for first place, which came in second with an average Metacritic score of 81.3, and only Destruction AllStars stopped Sony from ending the year with 100% “good” games. Activision Blizzard surprisingly finished the year in fourth place despite Activision Blizzard’s ongoing controversies, and before Xbox’s acquisition of the company was finalized.
Bethesda Softworks, which is already an Xbox member but publishes its games independently of Xbox Game Studios, finished the year in fifth place with several major releases. Overall, 2021 has been a fantastic year for gaming, packed with new entries on our list of the best Xbox games. Hopefully this trend will continue throughout 2022 as we await upcoming Xbox games like Starfield.
