While it still had to settle for 18th place in 2019, SEGA can now call itself the publisher of 2020. At least, in the eyes of Metacritic. Yesterday, they published their annual rankings for the eleventh time.
Although SEGA was named by Metacritic, with an average score of 81.6% they did not have the highest marks in 2020. That honor belongs to indie publisher Annapurna Interactive, who brought us games like Kentucky Route Zero and the only publisher only games in green. This brought it to an average of 81.9%. The fact that it nevertheless has to settle for second place has to do with Yakuza 0 and Persona 5: Royal, two games from SEGA that did so well that Metacritic gave them the first place.
With an average of 80.3%, the top three of 2020 is completed by Capcom, who released the remake of Resident Evil 3, among other things.
