Facebook’s Meta and Apple are set to compete in the mixed-reality headset market. On Monday, Apple introduced its Vision Pro headset, priced at $3,499. Meta’s Quest family of VR headsets, meanwhile, range in price from $300 to $500. Facebook dominates the nascent market, with rivals such as Sony, HTC and Magic Leap lagging behind. Research firm CCS Insight recently reported that global shipments of VR and AR headsets fell over 12% to 9.6 million in 2022 from the prior year, as consumers cut back on spending. Several technology analysts say Apple’s entry into the market could kickstart consumer interest again. Cook and Zuckerberg have long been public adversaries with differing views on how the tech industry should operate; however, this is the first time the two will directly compete head-to-head in a real way.
