Of dienst Meta Verified costs 9.99 pounds per month, the equivalent of 11.50 euros. Those who subscribe to it are probably less bothered by people who falsely want to impersonate them, says Meta: the company promises to monitor fake accounts more closely in such a case.
Better service
In addition, paying users can count on a better service: if they encounter problems with their Facebook or Instagram account, they will soon be able to contact a ‘real person’.
When Meta Verified was announced in February, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the service would primarily target influencers and other content creators.
Less dependent on advertisers
At the end of last year, Twitter introduced a subscription, Twitter Blue, which gives users a blue check mark on their profile. For social media, the subscriptions are a way to become less dependent on advertisements. Snap previously launched the Snapchat Plus subscription and Telegram also has a paid Premium subscription.
It is not yet known when Meta Verified will be introduced in the Netherlands.
