Meta presented the “Orion” glasses with augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Zuckerberg: It’s like a time machine

Meta presented the first prototype of glasses with augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Mark Zuckerberg explained at the Connect conference in California that the new glasses called “Orion” will allow users to see holograms integrated into the physical world. Additionally, they enable manual tracking interactions.

Named “Orion”, the glasses are equipped with a camera, headphones and an AI voice assistant, just like the Meta Ray-Ban connected glasses that have been on the market for several years, told AFP taken by News.ro.

They also include tiny projectors to watch videos, screens or even people as holograms – all without wearing a headset that isolates the user.

“It’s like a time machine,” joked Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Meta. “They give a glimpse of the future that I think will be very interesting.”

The billionaire ended his annual presentation of the group’s new products with this new device, the only real surprise at the event at Menlo Park (California), the company’s headquarters.

He told how he founded a team ten years ago to make wireless glasses that were light (less than 100 grams), able to transmit clear, bright images and large enough for all practice and environment, without preventing visual contact with those physically present.

To interact with the different functions, the user will use voice and gestures, but also, possibly, thoughts, thanks to the sensors on the bracelet.

“You need a device that can send a signal from the brain,” said the director. “This is the first device powered by our neural interface on the wrist.”

The founder of Facebook changed the name of the social network giant to Meta at the end of 2021, to mark the transition to the metaverse, his vision of the future of the Internet and computing, where the real and virtual worlds merge through enhanced and virtual reality devices (AR and VR).
