Meta Plans Paid Version of Instagram and Facebook for Europeans

Meta is planning a big change for Europeans. They could now pay for using Instagram and Facebook. This would get rid of the ads. But the free version would still exist.

The company owned by billionaire Mark Zuckerberg has not yet officially announced the plan. However, sources familiar with the company’s plans told the newspaper The New York Times.

People who pay for social networks would get rid of ads. Others could use them as before. Meta responds to the regulations of the European Union.

The latter blames the company for collecting user data, which it uses to better target ads, the agency reminded Reuters. In 2019, they were even ordered in Germany to first apply for permission.

It is not yet clear how much the paid version would cost. The company has not yet commented on the report.
