Meta, owner of Facebook to receive 240 MW of solar energy, supplied by Avangrid, an Iberdrola subsidiary in the US.

Avangridsubsidiary of Iberdrola in the United States specializing in renewable energy, has signed a contract with Metamatrix of Facebookto provide it with 240 MW of electricity from solar origin from the plant True North that Avangrid is raising in Texas, as reported by the energy firm.

Avangrid has explained that True North will provide electricity to the data center that Meta is building in Temple, Texas. This plant, which will be the company’s first in the southern state, will start operating at the beginning of 2025; will use, during its installation, 200 people and will pay more than 40 million dollars (37.1 million euros) in property taxes in the following 25 years.

“We are proud to sign this agreement with a partner like Meta, which, like us at Avangrid, has a firm commitment to accelerating the energy transition in the United States,” said its CEO, Pedro Azagra.

“With projects like True North, we continue our mission to help this country meet its ambitious clean energy goals while creating quality jobs and strengthening the local economy,” he said.

“We are eager to expand our partnership with Avangrid to bring more solar energy to our operations in Texas,” said, for his part, Urvi Parekh, head of renewable energy at Meta.

“True North will help us in our commitment to 100% renewable supply and will lead to more investment and jobs for the region,” he added.

Avangrid is the third largest company in the United States in terms of renewable energy and has more than 8.6 GW of installed renewable capacity, including 1.1 GW of solar plants already built or pending completion. In addition, it has projects under development for solar, traditional wind and marine energy, as well as battery storage with a total power of more than 25 GW.
