Meta Launches Vertical Video Display on Facebook, Similar to TikTok and Reels

Jakarta

Meta launched the latest mobile video display by presenting a vertical display for all platform video content on Facebook. A vertical video format also used by TikTok and Reels.

In this update Reels, Facebook Live, and long-form videos will default to a full-screen portrait-oriented video format.

The new video player will debut on iOS and Android in the United States and Canada in the next few weeks before rolling out globally in the coming months as reported by detiKINET from The Verge.

Previously, Facebook had changed formats for the user experience in watching video content. You’ve probably seen longer videos in horizontal view, for example, while others play directly in the Facebook feed.

This updated video player will adjust to vertical videos automatically, but also includes a full screen option on most horizontal videos, users can simply turn the phone over to watch them in landscape view.

The look and feel of the Facebook video player will also change. A slider at the bottom of the player will allow users to jump to different parts of the video. New controls will make it possible to pause and rewind. Interestingly, the display design for Facebook’s newest video is similar to TikTok, starting from the placement of likes, comments, shares and so on.
