Meta Introduces ‘Off-Meta’ and ‘Transfer Your Information’ Features for Enhanced Web Activity Control on Instagram

Meta has launched a new way to control how Instagram tracks your web activity. The “Off-Meta” (formerly “Off-Facebook Activity”) and “Transfer Your Information” technologies, which were previously available on Facebook, are now available on Instagram as well. “Off-Meta” technologies allow you to control what information is shared with Meta through your web activity by third parties.

Within the app, you can review companies you may visit that share data with Meta, such as Airbnb, and then decide if you want to disconnect specific sites from your account or clear the data entirely. This data is used to show relevant ads, so it may be something you want to keep. But, if you’re like me and are highly susceptible to targeted ads on Instagram, you may want to clear it out.

You can see which companies share information about you with Instagram by going to the Settings menu within Instagram, then selecting “Accounts Center.”

Additionally, Meta has added the ability to upload information from your Facebook and Instagram accounts simultaneously. So you can decide to do something like upload your photos and do it to your Facebook and Instagram accounts at the same time instead of dealing with each service individually. You can still download stuff from just one service if you prefer.
