Meta, the leading company with a new update on WhatsApp. Meta has introduced a channel feature similar to broadcasting channels on Telegram and Instagram. A WhatsApp channel is a system that allows you to share messages with a group of people. The new feature is currently available in 150 countries including India.
Meta currently has a one-way broadcast tool where only the admin can send messages. Through the channel system, customers can subscribe to channels of individuals and organizations and get updates from them. The channel facility is only available in the latest updated version. This feature is available for Android and iOS users.
A list of channels will appear when you tap on the update tab available at the bottom of the WhatsApp screen. A channel can be followed by tapping the ‘+’ button next to the channel name. Customers can follow the channel through the invite link or by searching and discovering it on WhatsApp itself. Just like Instagram channels, you can respond to channel posts using emojis. Through this, users can follow the channel and get updates. Meta says the new channel service could turn WhatsApp into a private broadcast messaging product. Meanwhile, only the admin can see the profile of the participants in the channel. Other members in the channel cannot see other people’s phone numbers or profiles.
Messages sent to the channel can only be viewed for 30 days. After that they will be removed. If you want to stop following a channel, you can mute or unsubscribe at any time. Many prominent Indian stars, sports teams, artists, leaders, institutions and many others have already reached the WhatsApp channel. Movie stars Mohanlal and Mammootty had informed about the channel through their social media. Indian cricket team has also started the channel.
