New VR glasses, new metaverse partnerships, more elaborate avatars, not all of them will be available in Germany. This is the brief summary of what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced yesterday at the Meta Connect conference.
The new generation of Metas virtual reality glasses should obviously be better than their predecessors and lighter – they are definitely more expensive. In Europe it costs 1,800 euros. 300 more than in the United States. Apparently, they no longer want to attract just gamers, but professional users as well.
But for the moment it is not available in Germany. The Federal Cartel Office has been investigating Meta for two years. The suspicion: abuse of market power. Anyone using meta glasses had to create a Facebook account. Until that is cleared up, there is a sales freeze.
Collaboration with Microsoft
Zuckerberg was also very careful to point out that there are more players in the metaverse and that they want to work closely with. With Microsoft for example. In the future, video calling should also be possible with VR glasses on the Teams platform. For example, a virtual avatar could be sitting in a real conference room.
“Partnerships like this are important,” says metaverse expert Metthew Ball. There is great skepticism in the market that an open and interoperable metaverse is possible, let alone probability.
Legs at last!
That is why avatars – the digital images of users – should now be used on different platforms. There will also be new stores. You can then equip your avatar with virtual outfits, of course with real money. And Mark Zuckerberg announces another feature, namely the legs. Previously, avatars were limited to half the waist down.
