We just wrote about Meta’s plans to release full-fledged augmented reality glasses in 2027, which, according to the company, “will shake up the entire industry and become as popular as the iPhone”. In parallel, Meta is actively working on the development of virtual reality (VR) glasses, which is apparently one of the few areas where the company has any notable success. This is evidenced by Meta’s statement that almost 20 million units of “Meta Quest” VR glasses have been sold so far.
“Meta” management shared this statistic earlier in the week, when they also talked about further plans for the development and release of augmented reality glasses. The company also detailed its plans for the Quest line in the future. With nearly 20 million Meta Quest VR glasses sold to date, there is no reason to abandon this product. On the contrary, the numbers clearly show people’s interest in this product.
It should be noted that in 2018, when “Meta” was still called “Facebook”, the company introduced “Oculus Quest” VR glasses, which were developed by the company “Oculus”, which “Meta” bought in 2014. In October 2020, Meta released the second generation of Quest VR glasses, which featured a higher resolution screen and built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor for better performance. Last November, “Meta” presented a higher level device “Meta Quest Pro”. On the other hand, the third generation of Quest VR glasses is expected to be released later this year.
